I have a friend who is running Win 98. His son thought it would be cute and put a password on it but then couldn't remember the password. He went in through the command line and some how reset the password. Now when it comes boots up to the desktop screen it flashes real quick and then shows nothing except the background no taskbar also. Any ideas on how to maybe fix this without reinstalling the OS. He can't find his 98 disk.

Thats strange.  you usually dont need a password to boot into windows 98. (You could always just hit cancel and it would bring you to the desktop)   You could always boot to dos.  hit f8 before the OS loads. then you can go in and remove the password
