PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:windows 98
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:cdrom drive
Error Messages:

Started having a problem with the cd drive.  The error was that it couldn't read the drive.  Replaced the drive and the system started locking up.  Changed out the IDE cable and when I powered up the system the was a loud pop.  Now the computer will not boot up with the IDE cable attached to the cd drive.  Also, when the IDE is not attached the system will not boot all the way, It comes up with an error of a missing file.  Of course the computer is not in front of me and I do not have the file name.

I am totally lost.  Not a computer genius. (obviously)
