I used to trouble shoot for HP and their printers. You haven't got a clean install of your printer. You need to uninstall the printer. then, make sure your temp files and cookies are cleaned out.
2. Make sure your antivirus is disabled as this can interfere with the complete installation of your printer.
3. in windows xp you can disable your startup items. unless you have a mouse that needs to be in the start up or your monitor. disable all others hit apply then ok.
4. reinstall your printer from the cd that came with it. Try that my friend and good luck to you.WinkSmiley

oh yes I forgot to add that maybe your spybot is stopping it too. Make sure you disable it or remove it before you reinstall your printer. You can always put it back in after.
