PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Win 98SE
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Dell Optiplex GX1
Error Messages:

One fine day, my PC mysteriously started without video, mouse wheel, audio, and network card drivers.  After much tinkering, I got three of these to load, but my audio driver won't load upon bootup.  I've tried reinstalling the operating system and the drivers to no avail.

Hi MJ,
Download & install "belarc".This will give you all info about your computer. With belarc, get the make & model number of your sound card.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Then go to the mfg's site & download the latest drivers. Then go into safe mode.To get into safe mode, restart the computer. As soon as the splash screen comes up,start tapping the F8 key.If that doesn't do it,restart the computer & hold down the "ctrl" key.
Once in safe mode,go into the device manager. To get into device manager, right click my computer>properties>device manager.Click the "+" next to sound, right click the sound card & delete/remove it.If you see more than one listed,delete/remove them all.Restart the computer,it'll detect new hardware, when prompted, reinstall the updated drivers you just downloaded.
Take care.
