i have an kt4v msi motherboard with amd 1.6Ghz cpu and pc2100 memory i want to upgrade cpu do i need to change my memory too or just the cpu?

Hi,

That depends on the new CPU's bus speed. If your pc2100 memory is "good" memory (not cheap) then perhpas it will handle an increase of bus speed (if there is one) but if the system is unstable then you would have to replace it.

What CPU where you planning to upgrade to?

well i just wanted a faster cpu but not spend alot of money. without changing memory i think i can only move from my amd xp1900=1.6Ghz to amd xp2400=2.0Ghz. the cpu is about $64.00 any higher i need different memory and more money.

Hi,

The performance gain from a 1.6GHz to a 2.0GHz cpu may not be that noticable but for $64 (which is cheap) its your call!

Make sure you buy from a reputable vendor, if buying off ebay or a similar site, beware, I have a friend who got a dud!
