PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows 98 SE
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:


I recently bought a new sound card and after installing it i get no sound and on the device manager bit it says the device isnt working properly.I get an error message when windows saying "error loading file cmicnfg.cpl - cannot find file" however i looked in the directory and this file was present.My hard drive has had a lot of problems (bad sectors) so i think it may have something to do with this.any help?

Reinstall it again and make sure you have the right driver for it.The problem is not related to your hard drive.If you are using a PCI card,try it an another slot.

pankcake is right try to reinstall the driver of sound card
incase you find unable then use different PCI slot
incase u still find help less
then give command dxdiag
at run box and check your sound card is working or not
still u find unable then check the cables also
and if u are using spk then check the power is ok or not
if still then buy another one costing Rs. 200 only

yeah i tried all that didnt work,its not just the sound card now the onboard sound isnt working.It has the yellow exclamation mark beside it in the device manager bit.It says that ntkern.vxd and some other vxd file cant load the device driver.That is the problem and getting no sound at all.

Hey all,

I managed to get the last problem fixed,so all the drivers are installed properly and everything should be working fine - but im still not getting any sound.I have onboard sound and the sound card installed but ive tried just disabling the onboard sound but still no sound.Any suggestions anyone?
