PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:Firewire/USB2 card
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Generic
Error Messages:

Just purchased a firewire/usb card...Installed it into my computer and now it will not turn off without holding the power(force off) button down. When I try to turn it off with the shut down screen, it only restarts..I took the card out and the computer works fine again.
Anyone encounter this problem?
Thanks,
Ron B

Hi T245T,
Go into the device manager, right click the firewire card & delete/remove it.Shut down the computer, open it up & take the firewire card & put it in a different pci slot.Button up the computer & turn it on.It'll find new hardware, reinstall the drivers.See if that helps.
Take care.

Hi Ron,
Click start>control panel>performance & maintenance>system>advanced.Click "settings" in "startup & recovery".Uncheck "automatically restart".Shut it down with the shutdown screen.Instead of it restarting, you'll see an error message.Post back with what it says & maybe we can figure this out.
Take care.

Hi Sandy,
Nothing comes up when I try to shut it down from the screen...Just restarts...It's just as if clicked restart in the shutdown box...
I'm thinking it MUST be the card itself making it start automatically somehow... Faulty card?

Hi Ron,
Did you follow my instructions above & uncheck "automatically restart"?I've never seen that fail before & there was always an error message.
>>Faulty card?<<
Could be.Take it back & get it exchanged.
Take care.

I did uncheck the "auto restart" and didn't get any error message...I got frustrated with it and just took it back out for now...Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
Try updating the drivers for the chipset on your mobo.
Take care.
