Hi T,
How did you hook up the cd rom.Did you put it on the same ide cable as the hdd?If so,is the hdd set to master & the cd rom jumper set to slave? or is the cd rom on the second ide cable by itself & is the jumper set to master?
Take care.

Hi T,
Seems like there may be a problem with the driver.Restart the computer & go into safe mode.
To get into safe mode, restart the computer. As soon as the splash screen comes up,start tapping the F8 key.If that doesn't do it,restart the computer & hold down the "ctrl" key.
Then go back into the device manager & click the "+" next to "cd rom drive".Right click the cd rom & delete/remove it.If there's more than one listed,delete/remove them all.Restart the computer,it'll detect new hardware & will reinstall the drivers.
Take care.

Did remove where it said cd rom, went to safe mode, rebooted as instructed, windows does not detect the drive.
Cdrom is not showing in Control panel/system/device manager, but
detects it in bios where it should be as Secondary Master.
Help.Huh?

Hi T,
1) Reboot your system. Watch the BIOS messages as they scroll past. At one point it should list the IDE drives it can find. Can you see the CD in the list?

2) Open the BIOS setup screen. Make sure that the setting for the CD drive is correctly configured.Boot 1 should be the floppy, boot 2 should be the hdd, boot 3 should be the cd rom.

3) Check the IDE cable. If you have a spare cable, swap it for the one currently installed.

4) Can you borrow a CD drive? Plug it into the data and power cables and see if it can be seen when booting up.

5) Make sure that your master/slave settings are correct for all your IDE devices.
Take care.

Try placing the jumper on your cdrom to cs (cable select) instead of master. This will somtimes make it appear.

Hi T,
When you deleted the cd rom from the device manager & restart the computer, windows installs it with it's own drivers.Try what Tincan suggested.By moving the jumper to "cable select" may take care of the problem. If that doesn't do it,try another cd rom.
Take care.
