Got a computer fairly new compaq 2.4 Ghz and got a gig of memory.  My problem is that when I go to the internet I can not search or go to other sites, it seems my system is locked to going to one site only and that is Friend Finders.  No matter what I do I can no longer browse the internet.  I am using xp and internet explorer 6.0.

I tried using a program called Hijack to try to help remove what is every in my registry but I am pretty new and not really sure what to delete or not.

Any ideas what I can do, to fix my sons computer?

For starters I would run these scans

http://doxdesk.com/parasite

http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan

Then install http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=lst-0-1  upgrade,  immunize, search and destroy

http://spybot.safer-networking.de/index.php?page=tutorial      spybot tutorial

and download and install this http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Use this to see if your browser was hijacked  http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

I recommend  installing    http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download
Create an account so you can be sent the activation code before installation.
The free version has no background process, but it will scan your computer thoroughly

and http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot  Alerts any registry change; accept or deny. Very useful in case of trojan infections
