PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows 98 se
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I recntly had to purchase a copy of Microsoft Windows SE because I did a format on my computer.  But the problem is that the system profile is reading my Pentium three as an X86 model.  So I inatalled Windows 98 first edition instead and it seems to be worknig fine.  But my problem is that I wasted 180$ on this softaware and I cannot take it back due to copyright laws and such.  Any help wuld be great.

How very odd!!!
The only thing I can think of is to install the Win98se over the top of Win98 first edition. This should leave all your settings intact and just installs the improvements.   Ted..

Why don't you submit more information, ZX 6RR Ninja?  Maybe someone here can help you.  This sounds pretty weird.  What's your hardware, anyway?  If that o/s is reading your processor as an X86, that's one of the older ones, right, which you were using before?  I wouldn't settle for just win 98 if you can help it.  I would uninstall what you've got on there - unless everything works ok - and try getting some help locally.  If you can find a computer guy near you you can trust - otherwise, forget it.  Clean your system of everything and try a complete re-install.  There were two editions of Windows 98 - the regular installation and the upgrade which was available through some kind of magazine pull-out (in Canada and the US, which is where we both are, right?)  Which one do you have?
Mike
PS And check on other tech sites as well.  I hope it's ok to say this, but there is a good site called "Annoyances.org."  They have sections devoted to different Microsoft o/s and the page is really busy, lots of postings, lots or replies.
