I cannot print a internet page on a home network for a printer
that is hardwired via a linksys router from one of my laptops.
When I perform the print, the PC connected to the printer reboots itself.
Tried this both wireless and hardwired through the router.  Both attempts caused
the reboot to the PC with the printer.
Print problem just started today, it worked great for the first two months.

Here is some background.
Trying to print from a wireless Dell laptop WinXP home edition.
Can print to the remote printer from the same Dell WinXP from word and notepad.
Can print internet page from another wireless laptop (Win2000) in the network.
Can print internet page from the PC wired to the printer.
The problem ONLY occurs for any internet page (using simple Google home page).
Word and notepad works fine.
I've loaded the latest router firmware from the Linksys site.
Using IE6.0
This problem only started today, had worked for two months.
There are no error messages of logs when the PC reboots that I can find.
The only thing I changed yesterday was to run Spybot for the first time.

(added 4/30) Just noticed something interesting the pc woith the printer had windows updates on 4/19 ( the day I started having the reboot problem)  They were for KB835732, KB828741, KB837001,
KB831167 (this is for IE6 service pack 1), KB837009.
Maybe that has something to do with the reboot ?

Woulde appreciate any help on this.
thanks in advance.

Okay, as a techie for over 10 years, I have to say I've never heard of anything like this one.

I'll give it a stab, though.  I'm somewhat confused by your long description of the problem. (Though I'm impressed at your attempt to narrow down the diagnostic criteria.)

1. Which/how many machines cannot print Internet pages?
2. Which operating system are they running?

When we think about crashing, we think about instability of the O.S. Typically, with Windows architecture, this either means not enough resources (memory, RAM, etc.) or we think of unstable software or drivers. My guess in this case is drivers. I'd check the drivers on each machine and go to the printer mfgr's website to check to see if there are updated drivers for each OS.

Also, if you're using one of the machines as a print server, make sure it is clean of temp files, defragmented, and has plenty of disk space running.

This should get you started.

Take a look at the following on another forum.
have not proved it out yet, but it may have something
to do with my recently started problem.

Hey Maines:

You know, I think Auggy could be on to something. That Kb patch does
sound like it is on the right track. I'm still confused, however, as to which machine is printing-is it a Win2K machine? Pro? Server?
Is it directly connected or wired?

IE printing problem is from a XP home sp1 to a Win2k pro sp3.
As mentioned above word and notepad print fine with this same
configuration scenario, just IE print attempt causes reboot of Win2k.
Reboots for both wireless and hardwired through the linksys router.
Can also remotely get to the C drive on the Win2K.

Can print IE fine with other wireless Win2K and H/W Win2K
Just XP causes the Win2K pro reboot.
