Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I want to delete my harddrive and start from scratch.  I'm unable to locate my Win98 CD.  I've located the CD holder and have the Product key code but no CD.  Is there anyway to copy it off my computer to reload it after cleaning it out?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

There is no way to copy all of the individual files off the hard drive and do a clean install with them. But sometimes people will copy the Win98 directory off the installation CD to the Hard Drive and then install from there. So do a search to see if you have a directory called "\Win98" on your hard drive. It will contain around 60+ .CAB files as well as Setup.exe and many others. You can copy that directory to another drive or CD-R and you will have the full installation files to do a clean install with by simply running the Setup.exe file.

If you do not have that directory you can use another person's Windows 98 CD with your Product Key providing it is the same version (i.e. Upgrade version, OEM version or Retail version)as Product keys are generally interchangeable between version. You can tell if your key will work with another CD by running setup from the Windows environment (not from DOS). You will be asked if you want to Upgrade. Select yes and you will have to accept the License Agreement and will then have the screen to enter the Product Key. If you key works then the screen will move to the next part which you can cancel out of knowing the Key will work when you finally do the clean install. If the key is incompatible you will be informed at that point.
