Hi Newbie,

Welcome to My Tech Support Grin

Just a quick glance tells me you can remove these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = c:\searchpage.html

O13 - DefaultPrefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=
O13 - WWW Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=
O13 - Home Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=
O13 - Mosaic Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=

Then run HJT again and post a new log.

It might be a good idea to download, update and run Spybot S & D and let it fix anything it finds in red.  Be sure to use the Immunize feature as well.

Dizzy

*EDIT*  Before you start, please unzip or move HijackThis to a separate folder of its own. The program will make backups to the folder it's in. These easily get lost in a temporary folder or a folder with other programs

This can be a difficult pest to get rid of
So let's try these steps and see if we can get it all the first time

You may want to make a new folder for hijackthis in your MyDocuments folder and copy and paste hijackthis.exe into that new folder---Name that new folder HJT or something similiar

Tools you are going to need

Download and save to Desktop CWShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Open it and check for updates but don't run it yet

Spyware checker--we'll try Ad-aware (free version)
Install----check for updates (Important)
Don't run yet
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

First step:
Set Windows to Show Hidden Files and Folders
Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Open CWShredder----With CWShredder open and ALL other windows closed let it FIX all problems
Don't restart your computer yet, instead open up Hijackthis

With Hijackthis open and ALL other windows closed put a check next
to these entries and then FIX CHECKED

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = c:\searchpage.html

Restart your computer in safe mode, link will show you how
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=4#_Section4

While in safe mode look for these files or folders and delete them if they still exist

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshelper.dll <---- this file(mshelper.dll)
c:\searchpage.html <---- search on your computer for this and delete if found

Open CWShredder and let it fix all problems again
Restart your computer back in Normal Mode
Don't open a browser yet, instead access internet options via Control Panel or Right click the IE icon on desktop---left click
properties---Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General Tab---Delete files and cookies and set homepage
if required

Next open Adaware and set these options
Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
After Scan is finished
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Sokay, benditup, I was hiding like the sneaky person I am. Wink

I sometimes have to refresh a page before I see any new posts at this forum, maybe that was the problem.  Either that or my invisible suit really does work. [:O]

Not clean yet
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries and fix
checked..

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = c:\searchpage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = c:\searchpage.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\searchpage.html

O13 - WWW Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=
O13 - Home Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=
O13 - Mosaic Prefix: c:\searchpage.html?page=

RESTART your computer and post back a Fresh Hijackthis log, see if it returns
This is important, before fixing those above entries with Hijackthis you should visit Windows Update
and get all latest Critical updates and ServicePacks-----For security reasons

Looking Good newbie
I take it that you have been browsing around for a while now with no problems.

I see your adaware log came up clean on the 5th of the month
That's good.

Optionally you can do another scan with Hijackthis and fix these entries to help save on system resources

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

This entry can be controlled by right clicking the messenger icon
by the clock and entering preferences(or options) if you prefer
Don't allow to run on startup and don't allow to run in background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

It's usually recommended to fix this entry also
O16 - DPF: {FA13A9FA-CA9B-11D2-9780-00104B242EA3} (WildTangent Control) - http://www.wildtangent.com/install/wdriver/racing/dodgespeedway/microsoft/wtinst.ca

It will reinstall this active x if you return to the site

I also like this program
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Help to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place
Doesn't run in the background---Just download and install----check for
updates----enable all protection
It will help in blocking bad cookies---active x controls--and adds entries to your restricted sites.
Hope everything is well for you.
Smiley
You can delete the backups that hijackthis made when your happy with
the way everything is running

P.S. Dizzy gave a link to Spybot in her post
I use both Spybot and Adaware, it may be a good idea
to install Spybot also, can never have enough protection
