Hi usernut

What operating system are you using ?

What were you doing at the time that the blue screen popped up ?

What is the exact message that pops up ?

Open your case, ground yourself and check the ide cable on your hard drive-both ends- to see if it may have come loose. Unseat and reseat both ends, carefully so as not to bend the pins. I had a similar thing happen to me on an older Compaq that was running 98SE. Every now and then I would get a blue screen and a message saying "failure to write to drive C:" or something like that. I opened her up and found that the end of the ide cable that goes into the motherboard was loose-mainly because it was too short. I ended up buying a new, longer cable: but when I reseated the old one it worked fine. Hope this helps. Shirley

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem.
When I am surfing on the internet, a few clicking sounds come from my harddrive, and my PC freezes for a short period. Then the blue screen of death appears, saying:
Disk Write Error
Unable to write to disk in Drive C:
Data or file may be lost.
Press any key to continue.

Afterwards, everything acts normal again. It is as if nothing happened...but then later the same thing occurs.

OS: Windows 98SE
HDD: Maxtor 40GB

According to Microsoft's website:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you have a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 network adapter in your computer. The EtherFast network adapter can cause a resource conflict with Windows 98 PCI Steering.

I have been using Earthlink DSL for about 2 weeks now, but this problem did not occur until only a few days ago. Also, I have a Netgear FA312 network card.
