Operating System Version: XP

Everytime i go on my computer it always tries to connect to the internet and when i am on the internet, search engines open up with searches which i haven't asked for. Such as images etc. Also, pop ups always come up and websites always load up and they are completely not related to what i am browsing. I have been accused of loading sites which i am not supposed to load, any help please?
