Well this just always sems to happen to me and IBM Thinkpads. I always have it plugged into ac power. Always bought used and seems the batteries aren't the best. But now even though it is always plugged in all of a sudden it will just flicker and turn off. Or not power up up at all. I need a battery for it to work at all right? Could it be I need a new one even tho I use AC power??? This is so frustrating.....thanks for any help.

To extend the life of your battery, don't leave it in while the notebook is turned on and connected to an electrical outlet . When using the notebook whileit is connected to an electrical outlet , remove the battery from the case . To recharge the battery, leave the notebook turned off while it is connected to an electricaloutlet with the battery inserted.
