PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Win XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I really hope someone can help me here...I'm going insane!! I am UNABLE to Open any Windows folders - nor can I open IE.I can view files ok, by opening an application and locating it in this way (or clicking on browse), but when I attept to open a folder by double clicking, or using the menu through right-clicking the folder, my screen goes blank for ca.15seconds (save for my desktop wallpaper), and then returns to precisely the same desktop as before, without opening the folder. I just re-installed Windows, in the hope that this probelm would be fixed, but I still have the same problem.
I recently (before re-installing Windows) had that cmd32.exe worm virus - maybe that has something to do with it??
Any assistance gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

Maestro:

Don't know much about the cmd32.exe virus/worm, but are you certain you disinfected it? Many people are under the assumption that if you reformat a hard drive and/or reinstall windows, that that guarantees the virus will be eliminated. In many cases, this is not so.

I would suggest before you do anything else, and I mean anything, that you find an up-to-date bootable commercial antivirus CD and scan
the entire hard drive for viruses.  If possible, try getting one that also includes a scanner tool just for cmd32 and run that as well.

If you don't have the skill/werewithal to do this, I suggest you consider hiring a local professional with experience in virus battle to do the work.
