PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows 98
Problem Application Name & Version: Internet Explorer 6.0
Problem Hardware Make & Model: IBM Aptiva
Error Messages:

When I am running Internet Explorer and Outlook Express and am typing an e-mail note whenever I hit the shift key I am switched back to Internet Explorer home page. The only way I can get capital letters is to use the caps lock key. This has been going on for about a month and I don't know what caused it to startup.  I haven't been able to find out how to check or change hotkey settings.

Thanks

wanna set a HOTKEY to open a program, and don't want to download some tool? Find the icon of the program and right-click on the icon. Choose Properties from the menu and make sure you're in the Shortcut
tab. Place your cursor in the Shortcut key field, pick a function key or a letter you would like to assign the shortcut to, and press it. Hit Apply in the bottom-right corner. To open the program, press Ctrl + Alt + "Shortcut Key" or the function
key you assigned to it.

I have tried both shift keys, they both react in the same manner.  Whenever I am typing a note and hit the shift key, I am returned to the MSN home page.  Very Irritating.

Thanks

So if you have just your e-mail client(Outlook Express),no browser up...while you are creating an email, and use the SHIFT-Key to enter a capital letter it brings up a new window with the MSN homepage?

Have you gone to the Microsoft website and checked for updates?
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Here's a link to the Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Service Pack, this has to be downloaded seperate from the other updates.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&displaylang=en

I have yet to find anything on the net thats even simular to your prob....

Check for the updates adove first then download and install Adaware:
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

Spybot
http://support.resnet.eku.edu/downloads/default.asp?which=description&page=downloads&id=1702&maincat=Utilities&cat=Anti+Virus

Let Adaware and Spybot clean out whatever they find.

Let us know

I have tried all of the suggestions except I have not yet tried downloading spybot.  Nothing has corrected my problem.  I'm at a loss.

Tried that and it has not cured it is it possible that it is some sort of hotkey or sticky key and that has been put on. What I did notice last night is that when you press esc on the keyboard it will shift between the programs starting with IE.

I have also thought that somehow a hotkey has gotten set without my knowledge.  I have searched my Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers and also Outlook Express for any clues or hot keys and have found nothing. Right now I logged on with Internet Explorer and am using Incredimail for my email.  When I clicked on the web address in my email, it brought up this site using Netscape.  When I started to answer this note and hit the shift key I was taken directly to Internet Explorer again, so had to close IE to be able to type normally.

I'm stumped.

I have found the solution. It is part of your profile, if you log off rename your profile and log back on it will create brand new profile without the shift key problem.
