Try this. Back up your registry and go to Start > Run and type

regedit

Then OK. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer and look in the righthand pane for the DesktopProcess value. When you find it, select it and go to Edit and choose Modify. In the box that says Value Data, change the setting from 1 to 0. Exit and reboot. Do you still have the problem?

No that doesn't apply. Windows explorer is not opening at all. Anything that uses a explorer type window will not open.
E.G. Control Panel - Windows Explorer - Printers -
But these will open when the computer is run in safe mode.
By the way Catcus thank you very much for your input so far.

TO CACTUS .... THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT.

I HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. FOR YOUR INFO IT WAS THE REGISTRY.

I USED SCANREG /RESTORE IN COMMAND LINE MODE AND IT GAVE ME THE OPTION TO RESTORE MY REGISTRY UP TO ABOUT 4 OR 5 DAYS AGO.

I RESTORED THE REGISTRY USING THURSDAYS FILE. NOW EVERYTHING IS WORKING GREAT.

AGAIN THANK YOU FOR TRYING.
