Operating System Version:Windows XP Home Edition
Problem Application Name & Version: Hewlett Packard Pavillion 531W
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I cannot get my pc to start. The problems began with the modem. First it would drop connections and then would not connect at all. When it wouldtry to dial, I get a busy or used by another program message. When I would shut down and restart I would get a PCI device message and the hardware wizard would start. I tried to install automatically, but would not work. Then when  I shut down it would not start. I could not get the Blue HP Invent screeen to start. After turning on and off several times, it would start, Windows XP Home would start and all files and folders would show, I just could not get the modem to dial. In the last 2 weeks, it has only started 2 times. When you press the power button, you can here the fans running and a single click. I have tried reseating all the connections, taking the modem out,  replacing the modem and have replaced the CMOS battery. When I replaced the battery and restarted it would show the screen for the F1 setup. I can choose this, reset the defaults and exit. But when I exit it will not boot to the Blue HP Invent Screen.  Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a novice so any and all help from the computer gurus would be greately appreciated.Sad
