Running Win 98SE>SadAngry
Mainboard is Chain Tech
Get error message on boot up of "error loading file cmicnfg.cpl - cannot find file"

I have followed other questions about this but none exactly meet what I see.  I have been dealing with this since Nov 03 and have learned some work arounds.

Sound card will work, but gives little buggy problems as on the Golf game it will sort of cause the flyby voice to freeze up and "stutter" for hours on end unless I do a hard boot.  Ctl/Alt/Del has no effect nor does Alt/Tab or Alt/Esc.  Have Hoyle Board Games and if I play Parchasi first then Dominoes I can then play Majong, but if I go any other route I will lose sound during Majong.  Close the file and restart the program and I get sound back.

I have reloaded software over and over no help.  I disabled onboard sound card and added a card no help.  I have gone to Mainboard web site and downloaded newer version of software no help.  I have written Chaintech three times about a potential patch and have gotten no response ever.  I have deleted all references to cmicnfg.cpl and get the same message on boot up.

Any help would be appreciated.  It is frustrating to have a nice AMD 1100 and 256 mg ram and not be able to run simple games.

That file belongs to CMedia Sound System tray access for C-Media sound cards.

Control panel for C-Media based soundcards - often included on popular motherboards with in-built audio.

If it came installed(which I think was onboard)should work with your system.
Before installing a New sound card make sure the Onboard sound is disabled.
You can also try re-installing the CMedia drivers for that particular app.
