Hi hockeymom...

Disable the Fast Shutdown:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility. On the General tab, click Advanced.
Click to select the Disable Fast Shutdown check box, click OK, and then click OK again.
Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Hope this works for you...

Cactus....there is no disable fast shut down choice.  These are the choices...Disable Systen ROM Breakpoint -- Disable Virtual HD IRQ --EMM Exclude A000-FFF --- Force Compatibility mode disk access -- VGA 640x480x16 (it is checked) -- Use SCSI Doublebuffing (is checked but in light shadow) -- Enable Startup Menu -- Disable Scandisk after bad shutdown -- Limit memory to 46 MB -- Disable UDF file system -- Enable Pentium FO (Lock CmpXchg) workaround.  What to do what to do.  Thanks

Ok...
If you have already applied the Win98 SE shutdown Patch, you will not have the option to disable Fast Shutdown, sorry about that. In theory, it is already disabled. However, sometimes it does not get disabled successfully. You can check and correct this by ensuring that FastReboot=0 in the following Registry key:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Shutdown

You can guarantee that it is set correctly by downloading and executing the No FastShutdown registry patch.

http://aumha.org/regfiles.php#nofast
(this is not the same patch you installed)

Disabling fast shutdown may solve the problem; but if it doesn
