I have had problems similar (although not identical) to this one with Word 2002.  In my case, Word is typically able to open the file but crashes (shuts down forcibly with the infamous Windows "Report This Error" dialog as detailed above) after about 5 seconds.  I have seemingly tracked it down to the fact that when my laptop is unable to connect to an attached network printer, Word is unable to recover.  When I remove the printer from My Printers, Word is able to proceed without problem.

I mention this because the only reference I was able to find to arp2apj.dll was on a page located at http://www.macalester.edu/crash/printers/ sharp/NTPCL5 (not really a webpage, but a directory that contains an inf file and a bunch of *.dl_ files - including arp2apj.dl_) and I was wondering if you had a networked printer that might be the culprit.  I have been unable to resolve my problem other than with the work-aound that I mentioned above - MS blames it on a faulty driver to my HP DeskJet 840C (the printer that causes the problem), but since only WOrd seems to have this difficulty I think it more likely that the fault is on Microsoft's side.

Hope this helps!
