Hey,

You're not wasting anyone's time. We're here to answer all of your questions! Firstly you should think about whether or not your computer meets at least the minimum specifications for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. If it doesn't then this is why the game is slow.

Check your CPU first to make sure it's the minimum required for the game to run and then make sure you have enough space on your HDD, keep at least 10-15% free at all times. If these are both ok the next thing you need to look at is your RAM. You need enough RAM to be able to run the game. The next thing is your graphics card, if the graphics card isn't powerful enough then the game will be slow.

The problem you have sounds like your RAM. Buying more RAM isn't a problem because it's fairly cheap. Just make sure that you get the right kind of RAM for your system.

Here are the definitions of virtual memory and video memory:

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/v/virtual_memory.html

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/v/video_memory.html

Regular memory is RAM.

These definitions may be a bit complicated, if so let me know and I can give you a less complicated version. Hope this helps.

Are you running many background processes while playing the game?
Do you know what your graphics card is? 32Mb, 64Mb, 128Mb etc.?

The graphics card should be ok because I was able to run this game on my old PC before. It had a 64Mb graphics card but it had 192Mb RAM. I'm thinking that you might need more RAM. But first we want to rule out a few possibilites. Do you have an Antivirus program? Do you have an ad-ware/malware scanner such as Adware or Spybot?

Update your virus definitions and update your adware scanner and then scan your system. It's possible that something is taking up your memory while you're playing the game. Getting some extra memory may solve the problem, lack of RAM is usually the main reason a system is slow.
