Important---Create a permanent folder for hijackthis
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too and backups will be stored there.
You can redownload hijackthis---Select save not open
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Find and delete this file
C:/Program Files/Common Files/svchost.exe<---this file (NOTICE the directory---don't delete any in the System32 folder

Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries and then FIX CHECKED when
ALL other windows are closed(including this one)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysInit] C:/Program Files/Common Files/svchost.exe

These next 2 are optional but recommended, not needed on startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

While in safe mode do a DISK CLEANUP
Restart your computer in normal mode

Open Ad-Aware (CHECK FOR UPDATES)and set these options
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Restart your computer one more time

Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control
Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Post back with a Fresh hijackthis log, let me know how your doing

Please make that permanent folder for hijackthis as I instructed in
my previous post, anything removed with hijackthis will make backups to the temp folder and removed when you clear that folder

Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries and then FIX CHECKED when
ALL other windows are closed

Do a Disk Cleanup

Post back with a Fresh hijackthis log

Hi singer. This may be the nasty new variant of about:blank
They are working on an automatic fix for this one...
Just to ensure what we are dealing with can you do me a favor

Click Start----Run---Type in "regedit" without the quotes--click enter
Navigate to this key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

In the left pane do you see something called "__NS_Service_3"?

Also under this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\

In the left pane do you see something called "LEGACY___NS_Service_3" ?

Please post back and let me know, thanx

I did what you recommended, here is the latest HJT log.  I did not find either "_NS_Service_3" entry that you asked about after running regedit.  Let me know what you think about this latest HJT file.  You guys do a great service here.  Thanks for the help.

Good job singer, but your still not totally clean and I'm not sure
if about:blank will return or not
Could you please ensure that Ad-Aware is updated---check for updates

Next would you set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Find and delete this folder if there
C:\WINDOWS\System32\IEDriver <---the IEDriver folder

Do another Scan with Ad-Aware in safe mode

Before restarting in Normal mode
Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries and then FIX CHECKED when ALL other windows are closed

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IEDriver] C:\WINDOWS\System32\IEDriver\IExplore.exe /U

RESTART in normal
Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control
Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Post back with another fresh log, could you browse and restart your
computer a few times, let's make sure that we got it, thanx

Well, it doesn't seem to have reappeared, your one of the lucky ones.
I'm still searching for a preferrable fix for the not so lucky ones Smiley

I would also recommend that you download SpywareBlaster
You can look at it here
Install it---Check for updates---Enable all protection

Right after I posted this, I ran everything again, (Spybot, cwshredder and adaware).  As soon as the about:blank comes back, and I'm confident it will, I will post the log.  Thanks.

Hi Singer, thanx for staying with this

 Download and install Registrar Lite.
http://www.resplendence.com/reglite
Install, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

and hit the "go" tab. Find: "Appinit_Dlls" value on the right side panel, DoubleClick, copy and post here the information in the 'Value' field.

I want to see if this is the route we should take, thanx again

Hi Singer, glad we exposed that dll

Follow these steps exactly

Now for the next step
Use the Registrar Lite program again. Copy and paste the key below into reglite's address bar and hit 'Go':

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Right-click on the Windows key in the left pane and rename it to NotWindows
(the folder is highlighted as a purple folder in the left hand pane of reglite)

DoubleClick "Appinit_Dlls" value on right pane and erase the data in the 'Value' box at the the bottom of the new pane. The data to remove will be:

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\kbdool.dll", hit 'Apply' and 'Ok' to set.

Rename 'NotWindows' back to 'Windows' in the left pane, close Registrar Lite and REBOOT the computer. If all goes well the hidden process will not run at startup and you should now be able to find and *see* the kbdool.dll in C:\WINDOWS\System32. Don't try and delete it

Using Explorer go to your root drive: C:\ and create new folder, name it: 'Junk'

Unzip and run Winfile
http://www10.brinkster.com/expl0iter/freeatlast/WINFILE.zip

Open it up, click File>Move...

Copy and paste this into the 'From' box: C:\WINDOWS\System32\kbdool.dll

Copy and paste this into the 'To' box: C:\Junk\kbdool.dll

Hit OK. Close Winfile and check in C:\Junk for that file - let me know what's there

If it's there---Open CWShredder and Let it FIX all problems
RESTART your computer

Post a Fresh Hijackthis log, for some final cleaning, please don't try
and fix anything
