im using windows 2000 professional and i recently had to wipe out everything due to a virus. ive been trying to re-install my cd burner and im having no luck whatsoever. ive downloaded the drivers for it and everything. its an external philips pcrw464k47. i have easy cd creator 4 software but every time i try to burn a cd it doesnt recognize the cd burner. the error message reads: "There are no CD-Recorders available. Ensure that your CD-Recorder is powered on and that all cables are properly connected." i'd really appreciate some help with this. ive been trying to figure it out for the past 2 months.

You can try editing registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives for the drive type value.

Take a look at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_c.htm and also http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];316529. (The last part of the link "[LN]..." is supposed to be part of the URL. Not sure why it doesn't show as such.)
