We figured out to stop the loading of the page by pressing the red X in the IE 6 toolbar.  The calendar page shows up, minus the javascript menu. So I suppose the puter is encountering a conflict between the calendar and the javascript.

Html pages on the same site which contain the javascript menu plus php code load fine.

Anyway, we found a workaround, but the problem remains a curiosity.
