IMPORTANT---Create a permanent folder hijackthis
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Simply copy and paste hijackthis from the desktop to that new folder and delete hijackthis from the desktop

Download and Extract to desktop CWShredder
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html
Run this later

Download and install the free version of Ad-Aware
IMPORTANT---For now CHECK FOR UPDATES

Disconnect competely from the internet

With only CWShredder open let it FIX all problems
RESTART your computer

Next: Stay disconnected
Open Ad-Aware and set these additional options for a custom scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

RESTART your computer again and post back with a Fresh hijackthis log

Look good Adam,

You should install these 2 apps., they add extra security while
silently protecting you without running in the background

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53

With both---Check for updates every couple of weeks

The original problem of mu computer "skippimg" when I play music is still there. I guess that it was not a virus. There was an alert about low virtual memory, Any ideas?

Not sure what your system has in it for memory
The Vaio come with 256 mb unless you ordered more
I recommend 512, but that's me---hee hee

My brother has an old pentium II he runs Windows XP on
this shouldn't be your problem
Even though it's quite slower than my P4
his music skipped with Windows Media Player
I'm surprised that it even runs at all Smiley

Uninstalled old programs he didn't use anymore from Add/Remove programs
Ran a Reg Cleaner on his system

I fine tuned it in for him and then tried the free version
of MusicMatch Jukebox
No more skips---go figure
He had a version of Norton 2004 given to him he put on his machine and
it slowed it right down
I uninstalled that too, and put AVAST on...Sped it up quite a bit
Not bashing Norton's---may be just a coincidence
Remember this is an older computer

Did a Diskcleanup
Start>>>Run>>>type in "cleanmgr" without quotes

Also Defragmented his hard drive
Start>>>All programs>>>Accessories>>>System Tools

Every little bit counts
Even cleaned out his prefetch folder
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch <---deleted the whole contents but NOT Prefetch
Not to be done all the time

I used Black Viper's site and shut down any Services marked SAFE
or reset them
Please make sure you know what your disabling
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Try some of the suggestions...Not a guaranteed cure, but should wouldn't hurt......

EDIT--If you use Black Vipers site---he recommends disabling SystemRestore----If you have it enable now can you please leave that service running
