I have my laptop and desktop wirelessly connected.  On my desktop computer, I have some music files I would like to play out of the desktop speakers, but run (play) the file remotely from my laptop .. is this possible?

If you share the folder on the desktop containing the music files and the notebook can access that share, you should be able to run them from there as long as the notebook has the required software to play the files.
