Does anybody know what this file is running on my PC? I have a problem with my broadband disconnecting every now and then.  I find if I delete the explorer.exe file when surfing the broadband is ok.  This is one of the files in the explorer.exe folder which I'm not sure what it's doing.  I've searched for it on the web but nothing.  I can't delete it, as it's telling me it's in use.

I'm no computer expert can anybody help?

Thanks

Let's try some cleaning and see if your problems persist

Set Windows to Show Hidden Files and Folders

You have indicated this too
Navigate to this file, I can find no info on it
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gchgjz.exe <--this file

Right click on it----properties---version
Do you know what it is related too?
Could you submit it to Kapersky's for a free virus scan
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
Simply use the Browse button to navigate to the file
Right click on it-----Select---Submit
I will assume it is bad for now or unknown

Enter task Manager(Hold down CTRL+SHIFT and tap the ESC key)
End process on this one
gchgjz.exe

Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries
and then FIX CHECKED when ALL other windows are closed

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0000607D-D204-42C7-8E46-216055BF9918} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5FA6752A-C4A0-4222-88C2-928AE5AB4966} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: CSObj Class - {CD209A08-98B5-4669-AF9F-447AC5253356} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\CSapp.dll

O3 - Toolbar: Mariasearch Toolbar - {853A33B9-EB6B-4584-8ECB-319A6F3B5429} - C:\PROGRA~1\MARIAS~1\MARIAS~1.DLL
I can find no info on this toolbar--if you don't know what it is get rid of it

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmmicz] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gchgjz.exe

The next ones are optional, not needed on startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Find and delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gchgjz.exe <--this file

RESTART back in Normal mode
I see you have Spybot installed--Is it version 1.3?
Another great Spyware checker is
the free version of Ad-Aware
After install---CHECK FOR UPDATES-
For a first scan try these additional options for a custom scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

RESTART your computer

I don't know much about this entry,
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Update Service] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Teknum Systems\update.exe" /startup
Almost considered spyware because of the update feature
DON'T use hijackthis to disable the update feature...
I've heard others having troubles with this program and connection
Go to their link, and update if required to disable the update feature
http://www.handybits.com/update_service.asp

Post back with a fresh hijackthis log and let me know how your doing

thanks for the help so far, I've followed your instructions and the results are as follows.  I'm not sure if I've still got the broadband disconnection problem but I will let you know.

I navigated to the gchgjz.exe file but it didn't tell me what it was related to

Kapersky Scan Virus.  When I submitted the file nothing happened, I repeated the process, browse select then submit but no results.

I'm running spybot 1.3 I'm also running ad-aware 6.0, I've checked for updates and followed your instructions to change the settings.

I've done the handybits thing and disabled the update feature.

Below is my latest log.

Once again thanksm and I iwll let you know if I have any broadband issues

You can have hijackthis fix these entries

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1BDD55B8-3985-4E59-B906-5E0AD56D6710} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: MSN Toolbar - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Toolbar\01.01.1629.0\en-gb\msntb.dll (file missing)

This one is not really needed
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCDRealtime] C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe
Here's some info
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/browse.php?l=18&start=50&end=75

RESTART your computer

I noticed that Teknum systems is still on startup
May have not rebooted since the update too Handybits'

Not sure about the disconnection issue
I noticed that you have Norton Internet Security
Do you have the Personal Firewall enabled?
You also have Sygate Firewall installed----and windows xp has a built
in firewall?
Are they all enabled, there may be a conflict there...

Just to be safe, you may want to try an online virus scan at Housecall's---Set to Autoclean
