Hello Friends
I am running windows 98 and internet explorer is really flakey. It keeps crashing. When I go into the start up there is the file mentioned in the subject heading present with a left column name of alphabet soup. I unclick it, hit apply, and then have about ten minutes on IE before it crashes  and I end up at the white screen. Got a feeling I have a virus of some sort. Help. thanks.

It could be a virus or spyware related file.  Please download HijackThis at http://www.greyknight17.com/downloads/HijackThis.exe.  Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there.  Run a scan and save the log file.  Post the whole log file here.  Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required).

The other thing that I was wondering about is when this problem is solved, is there a way to clean up the StartUp file. This file just keeps on showing up there.

The most amazing thing has happened. I went to look in the start up for this file that appears to have been giving me problems and it is gone -- at least -- it is not generating it's various forms as it has been. I had been running Adaware and it wasn't getting rid of it. Maybe it did it last night when I ran it after writing my question and before shutting the machine off. Wow! Here I thought I had troubles, or they have mutated to a different form. This is different. Anyway, thought you should know this before you spent time on the log and all. militarycross
