Operating System Version:WinXP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Fujitsu 10 gb HD
Error Messages:None but can't recognize HD

I partitioned and formatted the new HD.  It is recognized by other computers and as a USB drive but not on this Dell Inspiron 3500 Notebook.  I have several other HD and the notebook won't see them either.  The only drive it recognizes is the original 10 gb.
I can't get answers from Dell because they all seem to know less about this than I do.  I'm a fairly experienced computer user and I've rebuilt many of them....  The original drive is a 12.5 mm and all the new ones are 9mm but this physical size difference shouldn't make any difference...
Thanks,  Jay

Is the drive external or internal? I wouldn't bother ringing Dell, if they know as little over there as they do here in Ireland then the only thing they can do is confuse you and make you feel like you're stupid and they know everything, which they don't!

When you formatted the drive was it foramtted on a NTFS system or a FAT32 system?
