PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows ME

For over a year my mom's computer has been running very slow.  When I look up system resources or the system monitor, it always shows that the memory and the processor are always 100% tied up.  But we've never know the problem.  I decided to tackle all their computers on my days off and I have scandisked and defragged this computer and I ran Ad-aware and found quite a bit of stuff.  And I uninstalled Weatherbug.  What else is causing problems here?

Again, no Anti-Virus on this machine

Follow this link to remove Netsky virus
http://tinyurl.com/29adw

Read the removal instructions and download the removal tool
This entry in your log is very deceiving, especially when you use ICQ

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ICQ Net] C:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exe -stealth

Here's a couple others that look bad, we'll deal with them later
O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {60112085-E1CE-4e0e-823A-EBB1AD98804C} - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TENNU.DAT
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xfhmvgzxmao] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\txrglk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UNNET] C:\WINDOWS\APPPATCH\UNNET.EXE

I would suggest following the instructions from symantec

You may want to install AVG and Ad-Aware on this machine and run it thru it's scans
You should also update your version of hijackthis, delete the other one before posting back....

you know the formalities, so let's do the following

have hijackthis fix checked this entry for now

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {60112085-E1CE-4e0e-823A-EBB1AD98804C} - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TENNU.DAT

RESTART your computer
Navigate to this folder
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP <---delete the contents

Set Windows to Show Hidden Files and Folders

Navigate to these files if you can find them
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\txrglk.exe <--this file

C:\WINDOWS\APPPATCH\UNNET.EXE <--this file or the APPPatch folder
Some have recommended it for removal, I'm not 100% sure it's bad
It may be a needed folder.....

Let me know what you can find out about them or run them thru
Kapersky's
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

Post back with a fresh hijackthis log

I just noticed that all the media player icons had changed to regular windows box icons, so I clicked it to see what the problem was and AVG jumped up and said it had quarantined the file.  Will this fix if I just install the new Media Player on top?

Did you try and fix this entry?
2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {60112085-E1CE-4e0e-823A-EBB1AD98804C} - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TENNU.DAT

You can fix this one too
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xfhmvgzxmao] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\txrglk.exe

Which file did it quarantine?

Did you disable system restore when you fixed Netsky's as recommended
by Symantec's site?
Did you run a complete virus scan with AVG after you installed it
Preferrably in safe mode
Which Media Player are you running?

It quarantined windows\sysupd.exe

I deleted that other file with hijackthis once, but I will again and then reboot in safe and run AVG

Here's a new one and the BHO is back again.  Kaspersky said that
unnet was okay, but it hasn't escaped my notice that tennu is unnet backward.

Can you do me a favor axaday

Restart your computer into
Safe Mode

Find this file
C:\WINDOWS\APPPATCH\UNNET.EXE
RENAME UNNET.EXE>>>>>>UNNET.EXE.OLD

While in safe mode have hijackthis fix this entry
O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {60112085-E1CE-4e0e-823A-EBB1AD98804C} - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\TENNU.DAT

Navigate to your temp folder
and delete the whole contents
RESTART your computer and post back

How the system running?
If it seems okay I would remove this entry in hijackthis

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UNNET] C:\WINDOWS\APPPATCH\UNNET.EXE

Leave the file renamed for now and delete in a while if it is unneeded

Powerreg scheduler is probably a software registration reminder or similiar, not needed on startup

If you want the machine running a little quicker
Use these links to determine what Mom needs running on startup

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

You don't need the Ultimate Troubleshooter as recommended by Tasklists
On my 98SE machine I use Mike Lin's startup control Panel
I recommend it for window ME also
I don't like using msconfig
Check it out----a very small app. that puts an Icon in your
Control Panel
Don't go crazy and disable everything she has on startup, but just the
unnecessaries......
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

P.S
On my XP machine I use Codestuff's Starter

Are all of these computers in the same household?
If they are, I'll assume you are running through a Router,
If NOT, you may consider getting a software firewall.......

I can supply links to 2 free ones that are very good, you only need one for each machine
XP has one built in

Yes, all their computers are in the same room.  It looks like a computer lab.

The computer is running a lot better.  It isn't using its processor 100% all the time anymore.  But it is still a little stodgy.  Will those same immunization programs work on ME?

If your talking about spywareblaster and iespyad, you bet they'll work,
and recommended.....
