PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I apparenlty got a virus (thanks for the protectio Mcafee!), it destroyed my config system and I don't know what else.  Anyways the only way to get back into windows was not format the hardrive, but install windows over my old copy.   All my files and directories are still present, but now I have new use accounts.  Is there a way to restore my old user accounts?!  Please help me, I want to kill this computer.

You can take ownership of those files & folders easily with the new username.

I never have found out what virus it was.  Turns out my girlfriend opened an email that looked like a return to sender email, anyhow I believe that I got my doom, reinstalling windows did not fix the problem my files were slowly eaten away again.  Mcafee could not find it, so I ended up just reformatting the whole drive.  Really sucked.

Get the free version of AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php

It does thinks the majors don't (effectively do). Including email scanning and prohibiting girlfriends to infect your PC, because by the time she opens the email, the virus/trojan/worm will already have been removed from it. Wink

Of course, it doesn't help much to have an AV package on your system if you never update it.
