Hello,
My PC freezes on a regular basis, ctrl, alt and del doesn't do anything and I have to switch my computer off.  The freeze normally occurs just after I have switched it on but it can go for days/weeks before it happens.  I have looked at 'Task Manager' and have 49 processes running, is this normal? I also have Norton anti virus and firewall 2004 up to date.  The PC is still under warranty but I am having difficulty contacting support, should I insist that some one looks at my computer or is there something I can look for to remedy this problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

My son had the exact same problem with his computer. It was a faulty motherboard. Keep chasing support

Would you please download Hijackthis
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important.

I really don't see anything wrong...
There is one file missing.

Let's try this first:

Download and Install
Ad-Aware

CHECK FOR UPDATES
Set these for a Custom Scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Ensure you reboot after running Ad-Aware if it found objects
to remove, so it can properly remove them.

Then download and run Spybot

Update and run ..fix everything in RED.

Run HJT again and post a new logfile.

Try running Spyware Blaster as well. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

This, if updated regularly, will prevent any spyware from doing harm to your system.

But the freezing part, does anything out of the ordinary show in your Event Viewer? (Log on as administrator, Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.) Check in the system log and software logs for anything that shows a yellow or red marker.

Like I said earier bc, my son had exactly the same problem. Some days his computer would go for days without crashing. Other times in would crash on booting. Keep trying any ideas suggested to you. But keep it in the back of your mind about the motherboard. My sons computer was only 3 months old. He spent 3 months trying to fix the problem. Without any luck. He eventualy bought a new computer. Good Luck, I hope it is just a spyware problem!

Hi
Don't know if anyone will read this but think finely got problem sorted.  Many thanks to ww1961 it was the motherboard, just been replaced and now appears to be working fine.
