PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: wondows xp home edition

Problem Hardware Make & Model:

Hello

I really need some help. Recently I caught the about:blank virus and just cannot get rid of it with any antispyware removal tool. Is there a way of removing it once and for all?

I've noticed that people are submitting the HijackThis log file, so here is mine after a Spy Sweeper clean and a reboot. I have no idea if I did this correctly.

Thank you.

I came across a small problem. Afer I ran the SpyBot S&D one of my anti virus software stopped working (eacceleration - stop-sign) as all the files were destroyed by SpyBot (I wonder why would SpyBot pick those up as spyware or adware?) Anyway, I used SpyBot again to recover the files and then did the hjt again. I am not sure if I should've done that but I actually paid for the anti-virus program. Here is the new log:

Stop sign is adware... http://www.2-spyware.com/file-defscangui-exe.html You can remove it.Its up to you.If you do you will need to take all reference to it from the log and your files.

Run hjt and remove these..

I am truly very new at this so I need some clarification. You mean I should "fix" the checked files in hjt, correct?

Thank you

Hi...
Will you download "AboutBuster" Then Unzip it to your desktop. Do not run it yet. Print these directions or paste them into a text document as you will be running with your internet explorer closed. Restarting internet explorer may cause a reinfection. Make sure to have your system set to show hidden files and folders..  Check Here

Reboot into 'SAFE MODE'. Start Hijack this and check the boxes indicated below and fix the items.

Now startup about:Buster. Hit ok on the first prompt and then hit start. Next hit ok. Wait till the scan completes then save the log, Re-run about:Buster to make sure everything was deleted then search for any files and remove them.

Restart in normal mode. And do a scan with "Adaware" then Re-run AboutBuster again and copy the log from it Restart HJT and re-scan and post back the 2 AboutBuster logs and a fresh HJT log please.

You said to Reboot into 'SAFE MODE'. Start Hijack this and check the boxes indicated below and fix the items, but I think you forgot to show the items that need to be fixed Smiley

BTW, I am using Netscape, is that safe?

Thank you.

Sorry, I need clarification on your second last reply.

In SAFE MODE which files should I fix with hjt?

Once again, your help is appreciated.

Pancake,

I think we are missing something here.

Please look at your log on Aug 13 2004 :  22:22:24 You said to run the computer in SAFE MODE and fix the indicated items in hjt, but you did not show me which items. Without this   I will not be able to follow your instructions.

Thank you.
