PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: PC - Dell Microsoft 2000
Problem Application Name & Version: Trojan notification (Trojan Guard not finding)
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:
I received an email notifiying me that an email was sent from my computer with WORM.NETSKY.P attached to it. Previously, you had notified me to change the virus ttl.exe to ttl.exe.old. I have done this with all the files stored in the WINNT|System32\ttl folder. I noticed last night that it is storing html pages - I deleted those. Also a Delltree icon has appeared in this folder. From my hijack log, I also notice another file that is foreign:  C:\WINNT\system32\Shdocvw.dll. TrojanGuard is not finding these viruses....I only looked because of the recent email sent to me. Please review hijack log:

This file is a part of Windows....C:\WINNT\system32\Shdocvw.dll

If you got notification of just one email that was infected then the chances are it came out of someone elses computer who has your mail address in it and the virus picked it at random.

Hi Giji, I sent you an email, I really want to find out more about those
2 files...

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [memsaver] C:\WINNT\system32\ttl\ghost.exe C:\WINNT\system32\ttl\ttl.exe

I can only find a couple logs with that entry, both unanswered...
But one had a problem with an IRC worm, which was or is similiar to your case....

Hi Gijithomer, just to make sure we are right up to date
I still see viewpoint manager in your running processes
Did you try to uninstall it? We can shut it down manually, but first
Just to make sure we are seeing everything can you update Hijackthis

redownload from
HERE or HERE

save it to your HJThis folder, allow it to overwrite your version
and post a fresh hijackthis log

I haven't checked my email, but we'll keep it on the forum, more eyes
to help us out
I will check it however, in a bit

Let's try this, you must save Hijackthis to a permanent folder Gijit

Please redownload the latest version from my link and save it to your
HJThis folder in MyDocuments

Most of these ones I'm getting you to fix are optional, but please fix
them, they are either not needed on startup or process of elimination

Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries
and then FIX CHECKED when ALL other windows are closed

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PlaxoUpdate] C:\WINNT\Plaxo\1.4.2.25\InstallStub.exe -a
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

If you don't need Quickbooks delivery Agent running you should be able
to disable this feature from within the program itself
A lot of ppls don't even know this is running

Let's see if this helps your other problem we discussed
Open Outlook Express
Click on TOOLS---OPTIONS----Maintenance tab
STORE FOLDER
Highlight the directory listed under "your personal message store is located in the following folder"
Close Outlook Express
Go to START>>>>SEARCH>>Files and folders
Paste the line you copied from OE into the search field and then search
Double click to open the OE folder and look for the Outbox.dbx folder
Right click on it and delete it

RESTART your computer
After you have restarted, Open Internet Explorer
Copy and paste the line below into the address field
javascript:navigator.userAgent and then hit go
Copy and paste back here the text from the new window of IE

Post back and let me know how everything is going

Hi Benditup!
Okay, I have re-installed Hijack...fixed the recommended entries
Removed Outbox.dbx folder
I tried disabling Quickbooks delivery Agent - but cannot find the source to do this within the program. Please advise.

Here is the javascript:navigator.userAgent info:

Okay thanks - I did it.

Okay, my scheduled reminders pop up even though my Outlook isn't running. I guess b/c of my palm pilot sync. Anyway, I tried to delete a past reminder and I still get the error message:

"The messaging interfaced has returned an internal unknown error. Please restart Outlook if the problem persists." As you can imagine, I continue to do that...and when I launch outlook it sends those 18 emails which are stuck in my outbox over and over again to the recipients.

Please let me know if you think I should give my computer to someone who can save the pst. file and then reload Microsoft Office - or if you feel we can do it.

And, what are your thoughts on the firewall?

Anything else you noticed in the new log?

I thought maybe it was maybe related to Plaxo installed on your computer
Not to sure???
You shouldn't need a software firewall if your running through a Router

I tried the new pst file and I wasn't able to stop the outgoing messages. I went back to my old file and for some reason I was able to delete this messages via Ctrl A - Delete. (before I was getting the error message when I was trying to delete anything). So, I will continue trying things. Thanks for your help.

So, I hope my Plaxo wasn't deleted. I need that for my contacts....as you can see, I can't depend on Outlook. ha!

So, I'll keep running scans...and I'll be in touch if I feel Mr. Virus has me again....

Take care, gijit
