PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP Home w/ SP1, etc.
Problem Application Name & Version: WINDOWS!!!!!
Problem Hardware Make & Model: WD Caviar 80 GB HD, Seagate Barracuda 120 GB HD, Artec CD-RW drive, Artec DVD-ROM drive
Error Messages: n/a

Well, somehow my two--IDE--hard drives and CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives are being identified as SCSI by Windows XP. No idea WHY, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems EXCEPT with the CD-RW: It terminates early on burning attempts due to "improper SCSI command" or something similar. Help?

Well, I figured it out myself--but since this might happen to someone else in future, I'll add the solution here. What happened is, somewhere along the line my IDE controller's driver went AWOL. No clue as to HOW that happened, but the solution was easy enough--just updated the drivers and reinstalled them from my motherboard's setup disk. Snap, done, and my system works somewhat right again!
