I recommend that you uninstall Weatherbug from add/Remove Programs
if present, has the spyware stamp on it

Could you delete your copy of hijackthis, it is outdated
Important---Create a permanent folder hijackthis
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT
OR create a folder as C:\HJT---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
re-download from
HERE or HERE

Post a fresh log from Hijackthis 1.98.2

Could you also Download GetServices.zip
Unzip it to a folder
Double click on the Getservice.bat file to run it. This will create and open a text file named getservice.txt in the same folder.
getservice.txt will list all active Services

Please attach it in your reply, Simply click the "Inser File Attachment" below the reply box
Browse to getservice.txt---Right click on it and Select it
Click the Upload File

Let's try some cleanup, hopefully we can get it all in one go

===Set Windows to Show Hidden Files and Folders

===Create a New folder on your desktop, call it Aboutbuster
Download to desktop About:Buster
by RubbeR Ducky
Unzip it to that new folder===Run this later

===Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware
After installation-CHECK FOR UPDATES
We'll run this later, make sure you check for updates now!

===Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad) hit Enter
Copy the contents of the Quote box to notepad
Name the file as fix.reg
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet

quote:
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SE]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SW]

===You may want to print the rest of this out...
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

===Next: Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc and hit Enter
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- Workstation NetLogon Service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled
from Automatic

===Stay in safe mode and navigate to these files or folders and delete them if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nkivtq.exe <--this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaxs32.exe <--this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msnd32.exe <--this file

===In safe mode
Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries
and then FIX CHECKED when ALL other windows are closed

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\axtyc.dll/sp.html#29836

After you have FIX CHECKED and closed Hijackthis
Navigate to About:buster you unzipped earlier
===Start About:Buster and hit ok.   Now for the scanning part. Hit Start and then Ok. The program should start scanning. Then hit exit

===Do a DiskCleanup>>START----Run---type in cleanmgr
Ensure that Temp and Temporary Internet Files are checked

===Double click on reg.fix that you saved earlier to desktop
and Allow it to merge to the Registry

===RESTART back in Normal mode
Open Ad-Aware and do a Full System Scan---Remove all Critical Objects
RESTART your computer again to finish the cleaning process

NOTE:
A few files may have been deleted by the hijacker
hosts
Download the The Hoster
Unzip it to a folder, Open it, Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. Note: if you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself

Control.exe Look in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder for it
If it's not there we can easily replace it...

If you have Spybot S&D 1.3 installed
See if the sdhelper.dll file is missing,
Normally Spybot is installed in this directory
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
If missing, download sdhelper13.zip
Save the Zip file to your desktop and Unzip it to your C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy folder

When your all done can you post back a Fresh hijackthis log and also post the About:buster logs, thanks

Update.
Well, my homepage settings stay where i put them, and the popups are gone. But now IE is real slow and I can't access most websites, it starts to load and just stalls. I can't access this site on that computer, so I am on my laptop (same network, so I know it is the computer this one works fine)
I am running adaware again to see what it finds.
Thanks

Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of notepad into your next reply

Could you also attach a fresh Getservices.txt file

Hi Dave, I removed your GetServices and saved it, I couldn't upload it, I had a hard time accessing this thread, I've experienced slowdowns with this site today---for some reason...

Your log looks ok now
Just wondering if you tried disabling Pest Patrol blocking features
and/or Popup killer or McAfee's Privacy service if it makes any difference---Just temporarily

I'm not sure what could be slowing you down
I would like to see if it's an IE problem

My preferred browser is Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3, it's a lot more secure
http://www.mozilla.org/
You can try installing the browser, as see if you can surf to the same
sites that aren't allowed by IE....
You will need the Flash and Shockwave plugins if you decide to keep it
Your running through a proxy server
You can find your settings in IE in Internet options under the Connections tab...

Edit---I only had you run about:buster one time, it should be ran again to ensure that all files were removed again and then restart your computer

I ran about:buster again, and restarted my computer, everything is working now, browser is back to speed and all the sites are accessable now.
The only thing is that Trusted Sites check mark at the bottm? should I be worried about this? I checked the trusted sites in the settings and there are none listed.

Thnaks verry much for your help.

You should install these 2 apps., they add extra security while
silently protecting you, without running in the background

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53
Download link==https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free!

I wish I could of talked you into using the Firefox browser, you may of enjoyed it Cool

I'll leave this topic open for a day or so, after I lock it if you need it reopened please PM a MOD and supply a link to this thread

If you decide to keep Firefox you may want to get the
Flash and Shockwave Installers
from here
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/firefox-windows.html#install-flash

You can customize the Toolbar by Rightclicking an empty spot up top
Drag an item to a spot you prefer

Check out your options under TOOLS--OPTIONS
Under the Advanced settings, I like to have
"Select New Tabs opened from links" checked
This way a new tab will open in the foreground

Try middle clicking on a link Smiley
It also has a built in popup blocker
Under the Download Settings, I've changed action to Save to Disk
on some of the entries, such as AVI and MPEG
Take a look around with it and decide if you like it!
