To what kind of CD are you trying to write? The error above suggests that you are either trying to write to a CDROM or that the CDR brand you use isn't recognized. Try another brand.

Also make sure that the CDRs you use are the correct size for the drive's maximum. So if it can only burn 740MB, you cannot use 800MB CDRs.

No, a driver shouldn't be essential for this model. At least not for Windows XP, Windows 98 might need one.

When I boot in Windows 98, it is booting normal, but in Windows XP a window appears "New hardware found" and I am asked to insert disk for Driver.
I tried to install the Driver from Windows but installation does not complete successfully as there in no Driver for this CD Burner in Windows XP. Huh?

Try to install a burning program, like Nero or other. That will usually give support to the burner .

Thank you Jee for replying. I uninstalled all the CD burning programms (including Nero) and reinstalled Nero by Sony CD R/W itself. Now my writer starts writing but Progress bar stops at 2% and after 3 to 4 minutes showing error Power Calibration Fail.
Pls advise.
Thanks.
