Hey everyone.

Recently my computer has been freezing at random. I've done a bunch of stuff and now I'm finally able to watch videos without freezing, but that's as far as it goes.

I can't run Spybot or Ad-Aware without freezing 30 seconds into it. Sometimes when i use Trend Micro's Housecall i freeze. Even leaving my computer idle for 15 minutes causes it to freeze. I left the Task Manager up and left my comp one time. When i came back my CPU Usage jumped to 97% and froze shortly after.

Some have told me it could be a bad ram stick, or maybe my processor. I have no idea, and im not about to spend money until im sure.

Anyways, heres my HJT log:

If you haven't downloaded the latest version of Ad-Aware please uninstall
your version and download Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.04
The link to the newest ad-aware can be found
HERE
After Installation---Check for updates

Next: Open Spybot and Search for Updates, download them if any found

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Do a Full System Scan with Ad-Aware and Remove all Critical Objects
Check For Problems with Spybot and Fix Everything in RED

RESTART your computer in Normal Mode and post back a Fresh hijackthis
log

Also, Open Hijackthis>>>Config>>Misc Tools>>>Open Hosts File Manager
Click"Open in Notepad"
Copy and paste the Whole contents of Notepad back here
And also post back with a Fresh hijackthis log

One more thing: Open Internet Explorer
Copy and paste the bolded line into the Address bar and hit GO
javascript:navigator.userAgent

In the new IE window copy and paste the text back here, thanks

Ok, i did everything up until running ad-aware in safe mode. My Pc still totally locks up. I turned my power off and ran ad-aware again with task manager open. I noticed that whenever my CPU Usage is above 90% too long i freeze. Spybot freezes also.

No idea what to do now. Maybe my problem is hardware related?

Try doing a Disk Cleanup again, at the point that it freezes
Take note of it, also give it a couple minutes before you give up on it
You may want to try in Safe Mode too

I ran the disk cleanup again (in safe mode). My comp froze again like it usually does when my PC usage is at 100% too long. So i waited about 15 mins... still nothing.

Also, I've noticed that i can't restart immediately after freezing. I have to wait a few minutes or It'll just freeze while booting up.

One word.. Irritating!

Valk, when disk cleanup freezes, is it freezing at Compressing old files?

Also, I don't know much about this Memturbo program, how much resources
is that using?
Open your Task Manager and find what processes are using the most percentage of resources

Yeah it freezes when compressing. I get a total PC lockup. No mouse movement, the activity light stops, and i cant open my CD drives etc.
I let it sit a few times hoping it would move, but it doesnt.

Memturbo is something a friend recommended for freeing up ram, it doesnt take up much. It's been useless so far, so im deleting it.

And the programs taking up the most resources would be:

System Idle Process   PC usage is around 90%, mem usage 23,556k
Explorer.exe  usually 3-6%, mem usage about 9,000k
Svchost.exe  around 3%, mem usage 20,924k

P.S. Thanks for all your help so far Cheesy

System Idle Process is OK, you want it at a high percentage, believe it or don't, I have mine at about 95-98 most of the time, I keep it clean, right now it's at 99

Go to Kelly's Tweaks

Scroll down too #48 and then look on the RIGHT HAND SIDE for this
Disk Cleanup-Compress Old Files Freezes
Click on it and save it to your desktop, DON'T click on Undo

Double click on it to Run and Allow it to Merge to the Registry
RESTART your computer and try a Disk Cleanup again

Alrighty, that worked up until it was cleaning temp files. Ya, you guessed it! I froze.
Hopefully that was the last step in the whole process. So i just went ahead and deleted temp files from internet options.

My PC still locks up now and then. It does seem to be running a little faster now though.

That wouldn't quite do it
Set Windows to show hidden files and folders with these options
* Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

RESTART in Safe mode
Navigate to Your Temp directories and delete the Whole contents
but don't delete the temp directories themselves

# C:\Windows\Temp\
# C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
# C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
# C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
# C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

RESTART back in Normal mode
Does ad-aware and spybot work, can you check for updates with them
