PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP Home Edition
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:Installer Info.  An error occurred during the installation of assembly component.{87493FC-5F43-496A-8FE7-18C4DB9B143DS} HResult:-2147024864  Yesterday I upgraded Windows Messenger to 5.0.  Today when I logged on, the "x" stayed on the icon and didn't automatically start msg. when I clicked on it I immediately got a window "installing" Windows Msngr 5.0 and in the middle of this "installation"  the above msg popped up.  And then the icon in my taskbar disappeared!  Now I went to Search and pulled up pertaining files, found one for the icon, clicked on it and msngr opened and icon was placed on my taskbar.Clicking on the "About" windows messenger it comes back and tells me I have version 5.0.  What in Hades is going on and how do I correct it?   Thank you.

I just found out that when I click on the windows mesngr icon, instead of bringing me to my hotmail inbox as it did before, it brings me to OE.  I thought I had that problem solved.  something very wierd is going on.  Maybe I should just not use OE at all, any opinions?  I'm tearing my hair out here!!!

I am having the same problem. I tried to download a simple pdf file from the internet and it launched an unstoppable feedback loop where Windows messenger was trying to install itself unsucessfully. "error occured during the installation of assembly component".  I have tried to delete/ unistall both messenger and adobe acrobat reader and start from scratch, but the same error response. It hogs my CPU and I have great difficulty ending the task once it has begun. Somebody out there must know how to deal with this stuff??!! Thanks
