Next time try using some form of punctuation, please.

Install your SATA drivers. They'll be on the CD that you got with the motherboard.
The MSI site in Taiwan is down, so I can't point you to any latest version.

hi, thankyou for the reply and sorry about the punctuation.
but there is no disk for the drivers as it is the ich5 chipset. i spoke to msi and they say that i dont need drivers for it.
i allso spoke to samsung they said to use there disk checker ,but it doesnt work with my particular drive.  i am again stuck with no ideas, although i was told to go see pc world to have the drive checked ,still laughing at that one.Roll Eyes

That's very nice to say of MSI, but the problem is that Windows XP doesn't have any generic drivers for your chipset, because XP was released way before the i865PE chipset ever was. The ICH5 Southbridge, which controlls the SATA controller, will still need dedicated drivers to work correctly.

Also, at the time of Win XP release (2001), SATA was an unknown factor. So Windows will not know about these drives, its controllers or anything else.

Get these chipset drivers by Intel, read the readme file here, then unzip & install the drivers & reboot.
