PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:Internet Explorer 6.0.2600

Everytime I open internet explorer up it opens about:blank. I read that there is .dll that is in the registry but I don't even have the AppInit_DLLs in that location. I have been trying to figure this out and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you Download GetServices.zip
Unzip it to a folder

Double click on the Getservice.bat file to run it. This will create and open a text file named getservice.txt in the same folder.
getservice.txt will list all active Services

Please attach it in your reply, Simply click the "Insert File Attachment" below the reply box
Browse to getservice.txt---Right click on it and Select it
Click the Upload File

Also post back with a fresh hijackthis log and don't restart your computer until we do a fix

EDIT---I see you have also tried About:buster, can you post the logs
from it too, thanks

Things seem to be okay now. The only strange thing is that websites that would be in an unknown zone in the bottom right of an internet explorer window are now shown as Trusted sites, but things do seem to be fixed. I'd like to thank you for all the help. I'm glad there are people like you out there. I saw the link at the bottom of your posts about helping with the site, i'd like to contribute something but I have quit using paypal. So if you know how I could donate to the site by some other way let me know.

Looks good Williamsb,
Optionally, you can have Hijackthis fix these entries, they are NOT needed on startup, considered Resource hogs, this is totally up to you
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Restart your computer

You should install these 2 apps., they add extra security while
silently protecting you, without running in the background

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53
Download link==https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free!

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks

You should also consider visiting Windows updates, your getting behind
this will help keep your system secure.....
If you need a hand in how I like to install Service Pack 2, just post back and let me know, or order the Windows Service pack2 CD--It's free

Thanks for the offer on the contribution, if you can ever help another poster with any problems or directions, feel free to help out...
