Am new at this so I apologise in advance. Have installed a samsung dvd RW & have existing asus DVD Rom, on Windows XP AMD Athlon....Pentium 3 equivalent i think. I can copy music on hard drive & on Nero, or  Roxio software, but cannot burn it onto a new CD.... keep on getting message that CD is not blank &/or not type for this function...I have tried brand new CD's of varying types, but still no good.
Have I not connected the hardware properly to the motherboard?Huh? Any ideas?Grin

Does it play CDs?

Do you have both Nero and Roxio Easy CD Creator on your system? Try removing one of them completely, then try again.

Hey Jee... I removed all CD recording software apart from nero, but it gets stuck when I put the empty CD to burn. The DVD-RW does not recognise an empty CD & the little light flashes constantly at the front of the DVD-RW unit. I can play CD's & DVD's & I can copy the music onto the hard-drive, but it won'r burn it onto an empty CD.

I have checked the IDE cables & think they are ok...One cable from main motherboard plug for the Hard-drive(master)....Second IDE cable going into the 2nd motherboard plug for the DVD-RW (DVD-RW = Master and DVD Rom Slave).....

Try moving the DVDROM as a slave at the same cable as the harddrive is. Both the DVDs on one cable can give problems like these.

Yes, good idea. Have a PC shop look at it. Don't go to PC World, though (if you have those in Oz, also don't go to Dixons Wink).
