Windows 98 2nd ed.


Hi all life saving ppl, hehe.  Ok I no longer have a d: (cd drive) icon in my computer. Nor can i play cd's in media player. and when i go in through media player to select drive letter its shadded and i cant change it..  In msconfig my cd make and model is listed but doesnt seem to load or something, I dont know and I really hope someone here can help.......Embarrassed

Is your CDROM drive still detected by your computer when you boot up? Do you see any evidence of it in your POST (Power On Self Test) windows?

If it isn't, first check your IDE and power cables. Open up your PC and check if both are still firmly in place. Then try a reboot.

Still nothing? Very possible your drive went to hardware heaven. The only ways to test this are:
a) test your drive in another PC. If it can't be found there either, it's defo dead.
b) Get another CD drive. Plus-point on that, if a) fails you have a new drive.

I hace fixed the problem lol had to change a few things in F2 set up..
