You don't need to, the Windows 98 installer will do this automatically.

If it doesn't in your case, what is the error message you get?

You lost me with that. Please explain in detail what you are trying to do and what it doesn't do, that you want it to do.

When I load win 9x OS the cab files are not installed. the OS is installed without error but he Options folder that contain the Cab files are not created automatically in the windows directory.

Ah, now I understand what you're getting at. Are you sure it isn't a hidden folder?

Else all you have to do is follow the following quickstep manual:

  1. Boot to DOS prompt with CDROM support. (Windows 98 boot floppy)

  2. On command prompt type: md c:\windows\options {hit Enter}

  3. md c:\windows\options\cabs {hit Enter}

  4. cd c:\windows\options\cabs {hit Enter}

  5. d: {hit Enter} (This is move to CDROM drive, use the correct letter if other than D:)

  6. cd windows {hit Enter}

  7. xcopy *.* /e c: {hit Enter}

The above copies the contents of the Windows directory on the CDROM to the Windows\Options\Cabs directory on the C: drive. If you use the above when you start with a new Windows install, you can start the Setup from this directory.
In DOS that would translate to:

cd c:\windows\options\cabs {hit Enter}
setup {hit Enter}
All you have to do then when the install is busy is point it to the same Windows directory as where these CAB files are placed, as it will tell you it found another directory called Windows already and if you want to install Windows to Windows001. You don't. Smiley
