What is Steel? Are you using a Windows skinning program that uses Steel, perhaps?

No this comp is virtually new, just yesterday did i remove all the rubbish on it. and there are no skinning programs, even call of duty closes after a while, but not a steel error... but just CoDMP (or SP) has caused an error and must close. they worked fine on my 98 machine.

ok, with that out of the way, more things to ask then.

Just about where in the game does this one come up? Are you already playing the game? Is the game legal or a copy (thinking about a copy protection thing here)?

If it's legal and you can tell me more on the where-abouts of when this window pops up, can you also leave me a couple of specs about your computer? CPU, motherboard, amount of RAM, videocard, DirectX version, drivers for the various bits, etc.

Last thing I'd want you to do is go to Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools, Event Viewer and see if any more info on these crashes is in there. Check the System log, Application log etc. Anything with a yellow or red marker is of interest.

Ok, well the game is legal and the error seems to occur about 5 minutes into the first level.

AMD XP 1800(shd be 2400 but i aint changed the clock spd yet, to damn lazy to open it up)
Gigabyte  GA-7N400-L
512DDR ram
geforce fx5200(up to date 61.77driver)
direct x 9.0c

here are two of the 3 logs from event viewer the security one doesnt have any events:

well actually they didnt post as attachments. However the system log had some red and yellow markers as did the application log, the security log had nothing at all.

You can copy and paste the logs here. Just open the event, click the icon with the two papers on it and post the data here. I am not interested in the whole thing, just the top part. Example Given:

quote:
Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   atapi
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   9
Date:      16/10/2004
Time:      15:12:33
User:      N/A
Computer:   BOTTLENECK
Description:
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period.

Hi,

You're not alone - I'm getting this problem too.
Am using a Radeon Mobility 9000 on a Toshiba Satellite A70.
DirectX 9.0c, WinXP Pro. 512MB RAM.

My application event log has:
Faulting application spiderman.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module spiderman.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x00419d26.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any help appreciated Smiley

My problem with my computer in general, was a bad ram module. I removed it and everthbing is grand. That is infact why I was getting the steel_debug error. I had numerous problems whom jee and others tried to help sort out. I only realised by chance that I got an error with a memory address whilst playing HL2 that that was the problem.

So Unless you check you ram mate then I can offer no further help. Sorry.
