PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I am operating a HP 514n and just tried to update the security updates from Microsoft. I get all kinds of errors and it fails to update. I borrowed installation CDs from a coworker and it still wouldn't update. I believe I have corrupted files and this may  be the reason it won't update. I also believe it is the reason my CD burner program won't work. Can anyone help me before I take my computer to a repair shop?

You get all kinds of errors? Like what? Do you have an example of the error you get?

Do you run any firewall software, or are you linked through a hardware firewall?
Check the URL that you are linked to. If it's a V4 update, try the following instead:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

The specific message I keep getting occurs while I update is trying to load, saying that it cannot copy this file, do you want to continue without this file. When I say yes, it will only go so far before it will stop completely and not update at all. It will uninstall anything it has already installed. Specific files include:
slbcsp.dll
dx7vb.dll
usp10.dll
sxs.dll
rstrui.exe
riched20.dll
repdrvfs.dll
and several others. I have tried downloading the updates from the website and installing them in safe mode(this was microsofts recommendation) and that didn't work either.
