I need to find out if I need to buy a special machine to copy some VHS tapes from my VCR onto a DVD using my computer's DVD player...or...can I just hook them all up together? If so, can anyone point me to where I could find those directions?

I have Windows XP.

Thanks for the help!

Chris

I'd say, use www.google.com and fill in "copy VHS to DVD" ... You can try with or without the quotes, both give a large number of hits and good enough How To's.

Grin
i too had an urge to copy my nascar vhs and camcorder vhs to dvd format for posterity- did a lot of searching and ended up buying a panasonic dmre75vs machine that does a good job with little hassle.
if you read the manual several times there is a method where you can tailor the size recorded on the dvd to match the time on the vhs
of course you have to find out how much time is actually recorded on the vhs
there is a way you can make chapters on the dvd for selective viewing
so far no bad burns
warning that it will not copy ' copy protected store bought vhs ' or at least that is what they say. i have not tried it myself but will probably try it on older vhs just for grins and giggles.

machine also can use
dvd -ram disk to do daily recording and rewrite thousands of times so they say

four stars for this unit - no stars for panasonic help center - very untimely and very incomplete

i think there is a $50 rebate if you buy soon - got my rebate after about 7 weeks. circuit city has the unit for @400 , though you may find on ebay for less , i prefer to deal with big box store when spending that much money , circuit city has the item generally in stock or can order online and have delivered to the store

i also investigated a card for my pc and hook up the vcr to the pc - too much hassle - panasonic solution works well but $$$ are needed
hope that helps
